What is Remember Me Thursday® and why does it matter?
Remember Me Thursday aims to unite people and pet adoption organizations around the world to be an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets in need of forever homes.
Just as Rescue Dogs 101 wants to raise awareness and help you through the process of adopting a rescue dog.
On September 28, 2023, the entire world will share the importance of pet adoption, and shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues.

What does Remember Me Thursday mean to me?
We started volunteering for a local dog rescue and fostering dogs in 2015. In 2019 I started volunteer at my local humane society weekly. Since being married, we have rescued 5 dogs.
So yes, I am a huge rescue advocate. I believe every dog deserves a safe and loving home.
Each of our dogs are each unique in their own ways and have brought my family so much joy and happiness.
I couldn’t imagine what would have happened to them if we didn’t adopt them.
And every dog we have fostered will forever have a special place in my heart. I will remember each and every one of our foster dogs for the rest of my life.
When you adopt, you save a life. When you foster, you save a life.
Volunteer, adopt, donate… do whatever you can to help a rescue dog!
According to the ASPCA: “Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats).”
So yes, adopting a rescue matters. Rescue dogs lives matter. Every living creature deserves the very best in life.

I have been looking for a rescue in the Wilmington, NC area and I can not afford the outrageous amount of money they want. That is one reason dogs don’t get adopted here in NC. I would love to rescue a Shihtzu but not enough money on SS to allow it.
HI Sharon, I am so sorry you haven’t been able to find a dog to adopt. I’m not sure what the adoption fees are in your area, but most times it barely covers the cost it takes to care for these animals. $200-$400 is the average cost in my area. The rescues are paying for the spay/neuter, and all vet care. If you go to have the spay/neuter done yourself, it costs way more than that alone. Many dogs come to them worms, heartworm and other expensive medical issues.
